BaliBody Self Tanning Mousse + Luxe Mitt Review || gifted.

Hey there and welcome to a new post on my blog. Today post is another exciting one, well for me it is anyway, because it’s a review of the BaliBody Self Tanning Mousse and their Luxe Mitt. I was kindly gifted these products but all opinions are my own based on my experience and they’re honest. I’m so happy to be finally writing this review to share with you all because I know you’ve been waiting for this post. Let’s find out what I think, then.

Let me first introduce you to BaliBody as a brand. I’m sure you’ve all seen and heard about BaliBody all over socials, but if you haven’t they’re an Australian Self Tan, Suncare, Skincare and Cosmetics company that sell a wide range of vegan, cruelty free and natural products. I’ve certainly heard lots about them and have wanted to try their products for a while, so when the BB team reached out to me, I was very excited to try their Self Tanning Mousse and Luxe Mitt.
BaliBody tan and mitt review
Starting with the mitt. I personally think that it’s always nice to try a new tan with the applicator it’s made for because you do get to see the product perform at it’s best … obviously there are lots of similar mitts that do the job, but when you find a mitt that works, you just stick to it and that’s me with Molly-Mae one. When I looked into the Luxe Mitt online, it looked fairly comparable to the Filter by Molly-Mae mitt in terms of the shape and the way they’re both described on the sites. The only thing that makes it different is that it doesn’t have the elastic cuff but I saw this as a positive because the cuff did lead to the tan being patchy around the wrists so I had very high hopes for this one. The mitt itself is described as “This luxe velvet tanning mitt is the ultimate self tanning tool. Our mitt ensures a streak free & smooth application of your Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse, keeping your hands stain free while providing a flawless tan every time.” It’s a good quality mitt, which is soft and definitely did help blend the tan in well and because of the shape of it, I was able to blend into the smaller areas more easily.  The mitt retails at £12.95 which is a little bit more expensive than your average mitt. I would personally say if you were going to choose between mitts that the Molly-Mae one does feel slightly better quality and did blend the tan in a lot easier but this could be down to the tan itself and not just the mitt.

I’m not a huge fan of fake tan because I’m always worried about being too orange, or being patchy and I also really dislike the sticky feeling you get when it’s developing … so, when I like a tan, just know it’s a good’un. In case you were wondering, I decided to used Ultra Dark all over and Dark on my face, so that my face didn’t over develop. I would normally apply fake tan before bed but I decided to apply in the morning after my shower so that I could keep an eye on how it was processing. The tan applied really nicely and blended out well, but I did notice that it does stick to the skin as soon as you apply it, so you need to really blend it and blend quite quickly, but you do need to continue to blend for a bit. It did blend nice and seamlessly on my legs and face (I used a foundation brush to apply it to my face) but noticed that on my arms it didn’t blend as nicely, I think this is because I don’t shave my arms or anything but, no matter how much I blended it did look a little it like tiger bread!

Also, I’m sure you’ll all be pleased to know that the biscuit-y smell you get with a lot of tans, well this one doesn’t have that and it actually smelt really nice and fresh. The smell of a tan does usually put me off tanning big time, but it’s definitely a bonus that this one does smell good.

“Enriched with soothing chamomile extract, antioxidant coffee seed extract and rejuvenating pomegranate extract to leave your skin looking flawless and feeling hydrated and glowing.” – BaliBodyco.com
The instructions on the bottle do give you time guidelines on how long you should leave the tan on to get your desired colour. The tan can be washed off after one hour, but it’s advised to leave on between 4-8 hours for a deeper tan, that lasts longer. You should also reapply the tan 30 minutes after the initial application for the deepest tan. I decided to leave the tan on for only 4 hours for a few reasons. It actually was looking really dark, I can’t bare the feeling of developing tan, this one’s not necessarily sticky, but it does feel like you’ve got something on if that makes sense and it was looking really patchy on my arms at this point.
When it comes to removing, it’s advised to wash off with warm water, no soap, no scrubbing, just stand under the shower until the water runs clear. A lot of colour does come off in shower which is understandable because it’s just the guide colour, but I’m not going to lie, it did look like there was little or no difference at all when I got out and dried off. However, I don’t know if it continued to develop or what, but a few hours later I did look really nice and golden brown. There was no streaks just an even all over golden brown tan, even on my arms which I was a bit concerned about after first applying it.

I completely forgot to take a before picture which is really annoying but I have included a before picture from my last fake tan review to hopefully give you an idea of the difference the tan made. As you can see in the images, the tan definitely did give me a warm, golden tan and it just looks really nice and natural, just as if I’ve been sitting in the sun on holiday and right now I can only dream of that.

Another reason why I’m not such a big fake tan lover is the removal process because it just never comes off easily. BaliBody have recently announced the launch of their new Self Tan Remover which you can check out here. I’ve been so intrigued to try a self tan remover for quite a while because the process of removing tan is such a tedious job and scrubbing away at your skin can make it quite sore. It’s described as an “innovative foaming solution gently but effectively removes old, stubborn self tan in minutes. Enriched with nourishing ingredients to leave your skin smooth and fresh, ready for a new layer of tan.”.  To me this whole range sounds like the dream, a golden streak free tan and a no hassle removing process too. If you would like me to write a review of this product please do let me know and I will definitely get around to trying it sometime soon!

So, what’s the verdict then? After wanting to try this tan out for a while, I’m very pleased I was able to and that it did live up to the expectations that I had. The application process was super easy, not necessarily quick, but it did apply nicely on most of my body, without the nasty biscuit smell. It’s a really nice golden brown colour, obviously if I would’ve left the tan on for the full 8 hours, it would’ve been darker but I think this colour suits me and would be how I would naturally tan if it was warm and sunny or I was on holiday. I did decide to remove the tan after a week, because it was starting to go patchy on my legs … I do get quite dry legs so I would probably put it down to this, but I still had 5/6 days of a streak free tan, which is good enough for me. If you maintain it well by keeping moisturised etc. it could easily last a week or longer and still look just as perfect as when you first applied it. It is a little more pricey than most of the tans I’ve used in the past, retailing at £26.95 but you are paying for the name, the quality and also the ingredients. It’s definitely a tan that I will be recommend and will rave about to friends and family.

I would score it: ★★★★☆
