Late to the Party Reviews: TooFaced Born This Way Foundation! | Blogtober

I find shopping for foundations to be the hardest product to buy because there’s so many different finishes, coverage, shades, undertones; you even have to take into consideration your skin type. For this reason when I do find a foundation that ticks all of the boxes, I stick to it. However, recently I’ve been trying out different foundations so that I have more of a variety, rather than every single Revolution foundation under the sun and one Rimmel one from years ago. I recently picked up the Too Faced Born this Way Foundation, so I thought I would share my thoughts on it and as this is another old beauty guru fave, this is the second post in my Late to the Party Reviews series. For the first part to this series I reviewed the Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara; don’t worry I will be including different brands at some point!

Packaging:

Too Faced always know how to kill it with their packaging and the Born this Way foundation is no exception. From the stunning pink, old-fashion looking box to the frosted glass and gold detailing, it looks and feels like a high-end, luxury product. Packaging is one of that factors that draws me into buying something, it catches my eye and I instantly want it, which is partly why I wanted this so much and because of the high reviews obviously haha. The only issue with the bottle for me is because it’s glass, it’s not very travel friendly; to me, it’s not too much of an issue but is definitely something that could be an issue to someone else.

Shade Range:

Some brands are still “struggling” to diversify their shade ranges but Too Faced didn’t mess about with theirs. The Born this Way Foundation has 40 shades (whilst bringing out new ones quite regularly) with lots of different undertones to make it simple to find your perfect match.

Good to know:

  • Medium-full, undetectable coverage
  • Oil-free
  • Coconut Water: Aids in delicately replenishing skin’s moisture levels
  • Alpine Rose: Helps empower skin’s health and resilience
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Gives smoother, more youthful appearance

Application:

I applied about 3 pumps over my whole face, half with a damp beauty blender and half with a brush to see the different. It was definitely more sheer coverage the sponge side with more of a glow, but it was more dry with the brush and you get more coverage that way. Both sides blended really easily and seamlessly and didn’t need much working with; which is great if you’re in a rush or your arm starts to ache from all the blending. I got the shade Almond which is a little bit too pale for me but it does oxidise slightly too, so you may want to try a shade lighter. The foundation does have good coverage anyway but it’s easily buildable, without looking cakey; I did put more on the sponge side to cover the maskne I have at the moment. I do get oily around my nose, the centre of my forehead and chin, so I baked those areas and set the rest of my face as I normally would.

After the rest of my makeup was finished, I can say that it felt really lightweight and has a healthy glow to it; I wouldn’t say it’s overly glowing or anything but it does look just like my skin, only clearer and less blemishes.

Longevity:

I wore my makeup all day as I usually would from morning til evening and after the first few hours it still looked great, but once we started getting to like the 5-6 hour mark it definitely got a bit oily. All foundations do go oily in my t-zone, but this seemed to be all over. I reset my face at this time and it looked great again; almost like I’d just applied it. I will mention that I used a hydrating, glowy primer prior to applying the foundation so next time I will put on more of a mattifying primer, even if it’s just in the areas I tend to get oily.

Overall, I’m actually pleasantly surprised about this foundation. I love the way it makes my skin looks, it’s really lightweight and doesn’t look like I’ve got a whole load of product on my skin. As it did go quite oily on my skin, I will try it out with the mattifying primer and see if that helps but I still don’t see it as an all day, everyday foundation for me. I think it would be a great foundation for a night out or a time where it’s only going to need to be on for a few hours or so. As it did go a bit oily half way through the day, I’d say you’d have to be okay to touch it up with powder throughout the day or I’ll probably use it when my skin is feeling a little more dry. As I said, after another powder it did look great again, but did then feel like I had quite a bit of product on and looked more full coverage and very matte; I don’t mind a higher coverage and matte finish but it just wasn’t the look I was going for, especially during the day. I’m definitely going to find a shade that matches me better because although it oxidised and matched me better, I don’t think it’s the right undertone for me.

I would say that it’s great for all skin types. I have combination skin and it doesn’t stick to dry patches, oily areas do get oily towards the end of the day, but nothing a couple of blotting papers can’t fix as it’s not a lot or as I say, a good product to wear on a night out or when you’re not going to have it on for a long time.

Price:

This foundation retails at £29 which is a little more pricey than your drugstore foundations, but is middle of the road compared to other high end foundations, but it’s even better than a couple of other high end (and more expensive) foundations I have tried from the likes of MAC and Urban Decay.

I highly recommend trying out the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation because it has medium, yet buildable coverage, they have a good shade range and different undertones, is good for all skin types (may be better for my oily areas if I was to use a mattifying primer) and it makes your skin look flawless.

Ranking: ★★★★☆

I love the idea of ‘late to the party’ reviews! I’ve also never tried this foundation even though I’ve heard about how amazing it has been for the past couple of years. I just can’t justify buying something so expensive when I’m not 100% sure about it as I have oily skin and I’ve heard that it can be a rather hydrating foundation.

I’m glad you had a good experience with it 😊
