3 SEO Tips All Bloggers Need to Know. | Guest Post

Just like any other blogger, when I first started on my journey, I dismissed every and all posts about SEO tips. I had zero interest in needing to know what it was. I didn’t ever think that it would apply to me or my blog. How wrong I was! If you’re a new blogger and you’re reading this post and thinking the same thing I did, please don’t believe that for a second. SEO applies to all of us. If you have a website on the internet, SEO should be important to you.

Hi! My names Olivia and I am a lifestyle blogger at olivialucieblake.com. I blog on topics such as body positivity, self-care, relationships and I share tonnes of blogging advice. I am so excited to be guest posting on Luci’s blog today. And want to thank her for this awesome opportunity!

If you’re unfamiliar with what SEO is, I’ll explain the very basics to you. SEO is the process of improving the quality of your website content and to encourage organic search engine traffic to your website. There are various different steps you have to complete to make sure that your website shows up on search engines such as Google or Yahoo. And in today’s post I will be sharing my top 3 tips on SEO that everyone needs to know.

CHOOSING THE RGHT KEYWORD

One of the most important things when it comes to SEO is making sure that you choose the correct keyword. Keywords are basically the words people will use on search engines to find relevant information. So, for example, if I wanted to find help with SEO, I might search SEO tips on Google. And, as you know there will be several websites that come up. Which is why it’s important that you get your keywords right. Keywords are really the base and starting point when it comes to optimising your content. There are so many websites online that can help you to find the best keywords to use in your posts. Here are a few of my favourites:

Once you have selected your keyword, make sure to include this word in your H2 and H3 subheadings and several times throughout your post. Search engines love when you use your keywords a number of times. Depending on the size of your post, be sure to only use your keyword a handful of times. As you can over optimise and this has a negative effect on your search engine ranking.

INTERNAL PAGE LINKING

One of my favourite SEO tips is reminding people to internal link on their website. Internal linking is linking words on your web pages and content back to other pages on your website. This really helps with SEO and with increasing your web traffic. Internal linking also encourages your readers to stay on your website for longer and have a look around, and that’s what we want right?!

There are a few ways to internal link on your website. You can link directly through words in your text, or you can also make suggestions related to the post. You could add a ‘ You might also like:‘ section under each paragraph and include the links there too. An example of linking a word in your text would be linking the word blogging journey in your post, back to an already published post about your blogging journey on your blog.

PLUGINS ARE LIFE SAVERS

Something that really helped me to learn about SEO was installing a plugin on my blog. I am a WordPress user business user, which means I have access to a variety of plugins. [You also have access to these if you are self-hosted too.] My favourite SEO plug-in is called YOAST SEO. And it’s actually what I’m using to write this post. It makes SEO so much easier to understand and has really helped me to improve my writing and posts. Not only does it help with SEO, it also marks your writings readability, which also affects SEO.

YOAST SEO makes it easier as it has a traffic light system. It tells you where you are going right with your post and where and what you could improve on. I much prefer to write with this plugin than to guess that what I’m writing is okay.

Have you got any experience in SEO? Do you find it hard to understand SEO? Do you have any SEO tips you could share?

Thanks again to Luci for letting me guest post on your website today. I really hope you find these tips valuable and I can’t wait to hear your feedback on this topic.

Please don’t forget to visit my website once you’ve finished reading this post. I hope to see you there!

Great tips! I found Yoast annoying at first but I’ve slowly come around and it had definitely helped me make sure I’ve fully optimized each post.
